If you are new to the game of soccer, it’s important to stock up on the right soccer supplies and gear. This includes shin guards, cleats and comfortable clothing. If you don’t know where to start or how to differentiate between each piece of equipment, here is a guide that will help you get on the field in no time.

One of the only pieces of protective gear that soccer players wear is shin guards. Important for all of the punishment of the kicks and slides, finding the right one could help prevent a significant injury. Playing without a shin guard is not recommended as reckless plays or accidental collisions could cause shin splints or even broken bones.

There are two basic types of shin guards available for you to purchase: the cheater and the deluxe guards. They both provide benefits to the player but are significantly different.

The deluxe shin guards offer the most protection of the two with a thicker support built into it while maintaining a lightweight feel. With a Velcro strap for easy fastening, they are perfect for any skill level.

Cheater shin guards are thinner and provide a better feel for the ball. Fastening these types of shin guards require tape and are eventually molded to your leg with continuous use. The downside to these guards is that they offer less protection than deluxe shin guards and are not recommended for beginners.

Soccer shoes are made with a different emphasis in each pair. For example, the Adidas predator boot was designed with a special emphasis on control. Other times you will see cleats build with a thinner core for more flexibility and speed. Be sure to match your style of play to your shoe for maximum comfort.

Soccer footwear is important to the game but will not dictate your skill level. Your favorite players’ shoe of choice won’t give you the handles that they possess. Take the time to try on different shoes as they all have factors that set them apart from each other.

When you’re playing in a game there are considerations that you should look out for when it comes to appropriately dressing up. You’re going to want to wear loose-fitting shorts and a breathable jersey. A beginner can tend to forget all about the important of staying comfortable in a game until they start to feel the restrictions in a match.
